Happy 30th Birthday U3A Knox

On Sunday 29 October, members of U3A Knox gathered to celebrate the 30th birthday of the organisation. We came to the Bellbird campus in Boronia, now a part of the history of U3A Knox.

Jan Bottcher, the current president, welcomed everyone and spoke about the past establishment of the organisation, its current strength and its healthy future, including a return to its new and improved home in Fairpark. Jan acknowledged the great work done by past presidents, Steve Damm and Lawrie Gaylard, in working with Knox Council to achieve this great result. With just over 1200 members and 120 courses being provided, we are in a great position.

She then invited Steve and Lawrie, along with our longest serving current member Mavis Strong, to cut the birthday cake, while we all sang Happy Birthday with musical accompaniment.

Members enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea, chats with friends old and new and the opportunity to purchase plants from the Gardening Club stall. A montage of nine paintings created by U3A Knox’s Artistic Expression group was also on display, with the paintings representing the diversity of offerings available to U3A Knox members and its growth from humble beginnings.

It was a great afternoon.
